Evolution for 3G Upgrade

The widescale adoption of 3G telephony is finally arriving, but there are many technical challenges posed by the delayed evolution of the GSM mobile system. Live networks delivering the 3G experience today are based largely on legacy backhaul infrastructure.

Hybrid systems to quickly deploy the new services over well-known and reliable technologies to the new world of IP networks have a limited lifetime. As 3G standards constantly evolve, the next big leap is to an all-IP network architecture.

As 3G evolves, operators are looking to remodel their networks to provide the bandwidth required by new services - but do not know exactly how much will be needed. The key to a successful solution will be flexibility, something supplied by the latest generation of microwave radios.

The system that can meet all possible demands of tomorrow's mobile wireless operators must have:

  • main features - such as channel bandwidth and frequency - that are software configurable
  • a high MTBF and low operating costs to minimize total life cycle expense
  • enough system gain to support changes in operating bandwidth and/or modulation
  • easy mangement of multiple directions into one sole radio node.

The new Evolution Series of microwave radio systems meets all of these requirements.
