SmartNodeC

The SmartNodeC is a remarkably compact and versatile SDH cross connect unit. The SmartNodeC fits in both an access or in the core of a multi-service enabled network.

The SmartNodeC handles TDM multiplexing as well as packet-based traffic via the Multi Service Provisioning Platform. The multiplexing of Ethernet packets in VC-x groups by use of the industry standard GFP/LCAS combined with VLAN support enables next generation networks to be transported.

The SmartNodeC is an ideal choice for transmission network, based on Nera's microwave radio portfolio of optical transmission networks.

The SmartNodeC can be used in a broad range of configurations:

  • Terminal mux (TM)
  • Add drop mux (ADM)
  • Non blocking cross connect (DXC)
  • Layer 2 packet switch

The SmartNodeC supports any l network topology, such as ring, mesh, star, bus/chain and combination of these.

Other SmartNodeC advantages:

  • A wide range of SDH interfaces is available from STM-1 to STM-16
  • For TDM tributaries, 2Mb/s to 34 and 45 Mb/s is supported
  • For packet based traffic, 8x10BASE-T/100BASE-TX and 2x1000BASE-FX/TX (SFP) support
  • Interfaces support half and full duplex, and auto-negotiation.
  • The Ethernet interface modules support multiple WAN mapper circuits
Flexibility

  • Multi-service device with a mix of E1, E3, T3, 10/100 Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet tributaries.
  • Aggregate speed of 155, 622 and 2500 Mbps in point-to-point or ring configurations.
  • 64x64 VC4 x-connect
  • Ethernet traffic is encapsulated and transported over SDH using Generic Framing Procedure (GFP)
  • Virtual Concatenation (VCAT) and Link Capacity Adjustment Scheme (LCAS)
  • Ethernet Line-service (point-to-point) and Ethernet LAN-service (multipoint-to-multipoint) support.
  • Non-blocking with VC-12/3/4 granularity.
  • Ethernet bandwidth granularity for 10/100 BaseT Ethernet in 1Mbps steps (1 to 100), and 10 Mbps steps for GE.
Protection

  • MSP 1+1 protection for STM-1 and STM-4
  • SNCP protection in ring, dual parenting or meshed topology.
  • STP/RSTP
The Layer 2 bridge supports the following features:

  • MAC multicast
  • IGMP snooping
  • IEEE 802.1q VLAN tagging
  • IEEE 802.1p
  • Priorities
  • IEEE 802.1ad Provider Bridge
  • Tunnelling of user traffic (QinQ) and Tunnelling of user protocols
  • Rate limitations per port/VLAN
  • Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) in accordance with IEEE 802.1d
  • Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP) in accordance with IEEE 802.1w
Size

  • 1RU box that provides high port density per footprint.
